The Bioengineering and Bioelectrochemistry Group (BBG) is a pioneering research group founded in 1997. It is opening new frontiers in the state of the art on the bio-electronic interface. It fosters technology transfer in the area of Biosensors especially for clinical diagnostics applications but also in agriculture and environmental monitoring. It has its vision focused on the integration of molecular biology and microelectronics.

The expertise of the consortium is in electrochemical and electrooptical transduction of enzymatic and bio-affinity reactions, design of transducing chemistries and sensor and biological material modifications to achieve specified characteristics, and microelectronic interfacing of biorecognition reactions. Mainly its efforts are centred in electrochemical transduction but are readily applicable in electro-optical devices.
