The application of Life Cycle Analysis to process plants

Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) is a method which assesses the environmental load of a product, process or activity throughout its life time, analyzes its impact on the environment and makes recomendations for improvement.

By "environment load" of a productor production process it is mean the quantity of chemicals, radiation, noise, etc released into the environment causing a potential or real negative impact on it.

The concept of life cycle analysis includes the extraction and manufacturing of raw materials, production, transport and distribution, use, reuse and maintenance, recycling and final disposal.
